If you have watched any golf on the television you have no doubt heard the commentators mention golf fitness training. Its no secret that 95 percent of professional golfers are doing some for of golf fitness training.
If there livelihood depends on their performance and they are participating in golf fitness training, why would not amateur golfers do the same?
The golf swing is one of the most physically demanding movements on the human body of all sports.
Swinging a three and a half foot long implement at upwards of 100 mph, while maintaining balance, stabilization and proper swing mechanics is very difficult.
I dont think I have to convince you of that do I?
The only way to be able to accomplish this is by improving the strength AND flexibility of your golf muscles.
What’s the simplest way to do this?
I can tell you not on a machine in your local gym.
Just take a look at the golf swing to realize its on your feet and bent at the waist. How could sitting in a machine help that?
It can’t!
You have got to do as many exercises as possible on your feet, involving balance, coordination, strength and flexibility.
You dont even have to be a golf fitness specialist to come up with some creative exercises on your own.
How about making your golf swing while holding a single hand weight? You cant get anymore golf-specific than that.
What about some exercise tubing (that’s inexpensive) attached to your door and make your golf swing? Another very golf-specific exercise.
You dont need a gym membership to do any of these and many more golf exercises. Convenience of doing these exercises in your home saves time and money.
There is a lot of information (including books) showing golfers on machines in gyms. Thats not golf-specific, that’s general fitness.
If you want to improve your game quickly and easily, try doing these in-home golf exercises. You wont believe how quickly your body will respond and how you’ll be the LONGEST hitter in your foursome in no-time.

Golf Schools Require Golf Fitness

Are you planning on attending a golf school on your next golf vacation? Dont expect to kick your feet up, relax with a cold beer and nap every couple of hours. Furthermore, dont expect to enjoy your learning experience unless you prepare yourself physically. Golf schools require at least a minimum level of golf fitness.
All golf vacation schools are not the same. But most do have one thing in common. You will swing a golf club much more than usual and this will put your body through more stress than a normal round of golf.
The last thing you want to do on your golf school vacation is to wake up so sore that you can not enjoy your next day of golf instruction. Also, if your body is sore and tired, chances are your mental capability for learning will suffer.
Here are a few quick tips to prepare your body for your golf school experience. And guess what? Your health will improve as a bonus.
Start your conditioning at least a month before golf school.
Begin walking or jogging at least thirty minutes a day.
Go to the driving range and hit buckets of balls four or five days a week.
Begin the right kind of strength and flexibility program.
In the last tip, I state to begin the right kind of strength and flexibility program. This is a very important part of the equation. If you do not follow the right kind of program, your golf game will suffer.
Many personal trainers claim to know how to train golfers. This is just not true. Choose a fitness program and a fitness professional that understands the biomechanics of the golf swing.
If you follow these tips, you will enjoy your golf school vacation. You will learn more. You will play better golf. And in your free time, instead of popping ibuprofen and donning ice packs, you can relax by the pool with a cool drink, enjoy the local attractions or play more golf.
Enjoy your golf vacation school learning experience. Make sure to visit our website for more information on how to train correctly for golf and how to pair the right golf school with your golf game.

3 Myths About Golf Conditioning
May 6, 2009 by admin
Golf has always been viewed as a game of leisure. But today’s golfer is leaner, stronger, and fitter. Until the last few years, golfers didn’t know how to go about incorporating exercise or, specifically, a golf conditioning program.
They have had a vision of going into the local gym and being intimidated by the “muscle heads.” It can also be overwhelming to decide what plan of action to take and if it will be worth the time and effort. I have listed three myths about strength training for golf and the truths about them as well.
“I will bulk up too much and that will hinder my golf swing.”
Golf conditioning specific for golf will not result in muscle gain that will alter your swing mechanics. To increase muscle size, involves lifting increasingly heavier weights with lower repetitions, increasing your calorie intake dramatically, and spending a couple of hours per day lifting weights.
A golf conditioning program incorporates moderate weight, with medium (12-15) repetitions, and in a time frame of 30-45 minutes. This type of program is designed to improve your golf specific strength and endurance, not build muscle.
“I will lose flexibility if I lift weights.”
In fact, the opposite is true! Weak muscles are also tight muscles. When you do resistance training, you are increasing blood flow, working through a functional range of motion specific to golf, and strengthening the tendons and ligaments in every joint of your body. In conjunction with a stretching program, strength training will improve flexibility, not hinder it.
“Weight training will cause me to lose feel.”
By strengthening your muscles specific to golf, you will have better control of your body. A sport specific program trains your body specifically for your golf game. When you improve functional strength, you have more control and balance, which will improve your feel. Strength training involves body awareness, muscular control, and coordination. These are all key elements for enhanced golf.
So in summary, golf conditioning can be done when you are in your early teens (with supervision), or into your late 80’s. I have personally worked with people in there 70’s and 80’s who increased their strength 100%. This was partly due to the initial level of fitness being so low.
My point is, that it is never too late to start. Search out a fitness professional or golf conditioning specialist to design a golf specific program and you will play better than you ever imagined! Start now!
